What would you do if you're “angle slammed” in a snowbank by your brother?

That's right, let everyone know that you will become a professional wrestler at the age of 12 and pursue this dream against all odds. April Jeanette Mendez (born March 19, 1987) grew up in Union City, New Jersey.

Being a lifelong fan, with financial hurdles and the fact that the Wrestling world is dominated by male Superstars, couldn't stop the 5ft 3in “Pocket Rocket” from fighting for her dream to come true. In September 2007 she wrestled for promotions like WSU Wrestling and ACE Wrestling. In July 2009 she attended a trial session at the developmental center of WWE's Florida Championship Wrestling. In August 2010 it was announced that she would be part of the 3rd season of WWE NXT with Primo as her Pro. Surprisingly AJ was eliminated from the competition on the November 23 episode of NXT, only one week before the big finale and despite winning a match and a competition earlier in the show.
AJ debuted as a official WWE diva on May 27 on SmackDown forming a tag team with her best friend Kaitlyn called “The Chickbusters”. Alongside her “TV-boyfriend” Daniel Bryan she was given more and more TV time. With that she was involved in her first real storyline with Daniel.

Love Triangle

After awhile Daniel started to treat her terribly. “Dumping” her publicly and wishing publicly that AJ was never born. "Dumping" her publicly and wishing publicly that AJ was never born. Which lead to her “snapping” and with that developing her character. From that point on AJ was referred to as “Crazy Chick”, which The WWE Universe cheerfully embraced and began to love. In a love triangle with her “ex-boyfriend” Daniel Bryan, the Big Red Monster Kane and the WWE Champion CM Punk, even more people fell in love with AJ's mesmerizing character as she made the show more
unpredictable.

AJ's Era As Raw GM

In addition to kissing/slapping Superstars on a daily basis, she put two male Superstars through a table and won an epic "Yes! battle" against Daniel Bryan. The storyline culminated with the wedding of Daniel Bryan and AJ on Raw 1000 (7/23/12), on which AJ said no to Daniel Bryan and yes to Mr. McMahon's 'proposal' to make her the new General Manager of WWE's flagship show Monday Night Raw. AJ's era as GM included making some phenomenal PPV matches and putting Kane & Daniel Bryan in Anger Management classes what eventually lead to them becoming one of the most popular Tag Teams in WWE history.

AJ Lee resigned as GM to keep John Cena save due to the rumor that he and AJ were having an affair. Fighting Vickie Guerrero and these rumors, Cena and AJ relized that they are indeed drawn to each other. Shortly after Cena made it clear that he is not interested in a relationship with AJ.

After pushing her Ex-boyfriend John Cena off a ladder which cost him the match, she got together with Dolph Ziggler. Dolph treated his "babycakes" much better than her past boyfriends treated her. A friend of AJ, Big E Langston supported the sweet couple and the Trio became unstoppable. Sharing a WrestleMania moment together, Dolph Ziggler cashed in his MITB contract on the Raw after WrestleMania to become the WHC, of course AJ was by his side.

The Black Widow, Savior Of The Divas Division

As AJ & former best friend Kaitlyn started an epic feud, her beloved Ziggy lost his Championship. AJ, however debuted a new submission move, similar to the Octopus Hold, called "The Black Widow". After weeks of humiliation, backstage fights and impersonations, AJ won the Divas Championship on 06/16/13. With an epic "pipebombshell" AJ Lee proved that she is not only The Divas Champion, she is also the savior of the Divas Division and therefore its face. Single handedly deafeating the cast of Total Divas (Brie Bella, Naomi, Natalya) at Night Of Champions, j showed the world that she doesn't need anyone at her side to "steal the show".

In der Dreiecksgeschichte mit ihrem „Ex-Freund“ Daniel Bryan, dem Big Red Monster Kane und dem WWE Champion CM Punk, fanden mehr Menschen Gefallen an AJ's hypnosierendem Character weil sie die Show noch unberechenbarer machte.

Neben dem regelmäßigen Küssen/Ohrfeigen von Superstars, warf sie zwei männliche Superstars durch einen Tisch und gewann ein monumentales "Yes! Gefecht" gegen Daniel Bryan. Die Storyline gipfelte mit der Hochzeit von Daniel Bryan und AJ bei der 1000. Raw Episode (23/07/12), bei welcher AJ nein zu Daniel Bryan und ja zum 'Antrag' von Mr. McMahon sagte, sie zum General Manager der Nummer Eins Show der WWE, Monday Night Raw, zu machen. AJ's Ära als GM beinhaltete große PPV Matches und die Zusammenführung von Team HellNo, Kane und Daniel Bryan durch eine Aggessionsbewältigungstherapie. AJ trat zurück von ihrem GM Posten um John Cena zu schützen, da Gerüchte über eine Affaire der beiden umherging, welche sie aber wehement abstritten. AJ sat down with WWE.com to explain the tattoo she wears in honor of winning the Divas Championship.

"When I was really young, my entire family was covered in tattoos, so it was okay to get one. But I knew, when I did get one, that I wanted it to be something important and special. So, at a very young age, I decided that I would get it when I won the title.I’m not a girly girl. And I didn't want fancy script or a butterfly or anything like that on me. I wanted something surreal; something that showed time served. That’s why it’s in the style that it’s in. [The Divas Championship is] something that I worked for and spent a great deal of my time trying to get. It's 14 years in the making. So, it’s supposed to be really cold.

Just a mark of an accomplishment and now I move on."

She exudes the perfect girl-next-door vibe, is a self-described video gamer, enjoys wearing Catholic schoolgirl plaids, and possesses the physical skills of a gymnast. But don’t be fooled. She’s not as innocent as she looks. Although she stands a petite, 5-foot-2 frame, AJ is a fierce competitor with an energetic, high-flying style that poses a threat to any Diva. This proud New Jersey native first introduced herself to the WWE Universe on the third season of WWE NXT. She finished in third place, but won many WWE fans with her lucha-inspired moveset and indomitable fighting spirit. A year after debuting on SmackDown in May 2011, AJ was pivotal in the 18-second outcome of the World Heavyweight Championship Match at WrestleMania XXVIII with a kiss to her beau, Daniel Bryan. The couple’s subsequent breakup sent AJ into an emotional tailspin, and she has continued to develop crushes on WWE’s top Superstars, including CM Punk.

Shortly after experiencing the love loss of Bryan, AJ began displaying a bizarre pattern of erratic behavior that caught the entire WWE Universe off-guard. Seemingly without reason, she slapped trusted confidante Kaitlyn and began inserting herself fearlessly into big-game situations involving her apparent love interests, including Kane, Punk and Daniel Bryan Daniel Bryan — whom she was slated to wed on Raw 1,000. The happy couple’s nuptials would come to a screeching halt WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon informed the WWE Universe that AJ is the new Raw General Manager, much to Bryan’s dismay.

AJ’s tenure as Raw GM was short-lived, however, and she resigned from her post due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with John Cena, much to the delight of new Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero. As The Queen Diva relished the opportunity to humiliate AJ and further expose her fraternization with the Cenation leader, the entire WWE Universe was shocked to learn the fiery Diva was actually in a steamy relationship with the 12-time World Champion, which earned AJ a Slammy Award for Best Kiss of the Year!

Even more surprising was what transpired at WWE TLC, when AJ intervened in Cena’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match with Dolph Ziggler, costing The Cenation Commander-in-Chief a World Championship opportunity and allowing The Showoff to retain his Money in the Bank contract. The following night, AJ made it clear that her allegiance now lies with Ziggler ... and a mysterious NXT newcomer by the name of Big E Langston. AJ & Ziggler had hoped to kick off 2013 in grandiose fashion with a special New Year’s Eve toast, but The Showoff and his deceitful gal pal had little reason to raise their glasses at the end of the night thanks to the Cenation leader. As the couple attempted to humiliate Cena by highlighting his missteps in 2012, the 12-time World Champion retaliated by dumping a hot, smelly mess all over the egotistical pairing. Cena didn’t say exactly what the brown substance was, but judging by Ziggler and AJ’s reaction ... it wasn’t chocolate pudding. With the massive Big E Langston by her side, AJ Lee has joined her “Ziggy” in his quest to prevent the Cenation leader from winning the Royal Rumble Match.

Through it all, one thing is clear about AJ Lee: She always keeps us guessing.

AJ beat her former friend for the Divas Championship with her punishing Black Widow submission maneuver, but she didn’t just take “The Hybrid Diva’s” title — she destroyed her emotionally. It was a disturbing reminder that there is nothing more dangerous than a woman scorned.

Not merely satisfied with vanquishing her rival, the twisted titleholder continued playing mind games. At Money in the Bank, Kaitlyn looked as though she had AJ on the ropes, but the champion locked in the Black Widow and forced her estranged friend to tap out, retaining her Divas Championship. AJ’s night was soon soured, however, as she interfered in Ziggler’s World Heavyweight Championship Match and attacked Alberto Del Rio, drawing a disqualification that killed Dolph’s chances of grabbing the title.

After Ziggler made it clear that he was done with AJ the following night, the ferocious femme fatale retaliated by slapping Ziggler across the face and beamed when Big E Langston left him laying in the middle of the ring.

Despite being ditched by Dolph, AJ’s ego remains unchallenged in WWE. The brash titleholder confronted the cast of “Total Divas” and proclaimed in no uncertain terms that none of the women on the hit reality show are qualified to share the ring with AJ Lee. She successfully defended the Divas Championship against Natalya, Naomi and Brie Bella in a Fatal 4-Way Match at Night of Champions.

Thanks to a welcome distraction by her new enforcer, Tamina Snuka, AJ Lee retained her title against Brie Bella at WWE Battleground and in a repeat performance at WWE Hell in a Cell. But at Survivor Series, AJ, and her team of six other Divas came up short against the “Total Divas” in a Traditional Elimination Tag Team Match. AJ suffered another defeat in a Survivor Series rematch the following night, leaving the Divas Champion with some yet unfinished business with the entire “Total Divas” cast. Just six nights after Natalya earned a definitive victory over Tamina live on Raw, AJ successfully defended her title against the Hart Dungeon-trained beauty at WWE TLC: Tables Ladders & Chairs on Dec. 15., thanks to the help of Tamina Snuka looming at ringside. AJ celebrated her second victory over the “Total Divas” in as many nights when she teamed with Tamina and Alicia Fox against The Bella Twins & Natalya in a Six-Diva Tag Team Match.

No matter what happens next to her or or championship, one thing remains clear: the always-unpredictable AJ Lee will always keep us guessing.

How It Started: I would credit my brother for getting me into wrestling in the first place. I always looked up to him and wanted to do whatever he was doing. He was a huge wrestling fan so I eventually became one, too. I remember my first idol ever was Miss Elizabeth. She was so beautiful and classy, I wanted to grow up to be just like her. I really fell in love with the business, and knew that I wanted to be a part of it, around the year 2000 when women’s wrestling started to make its mark. A short time after I graduated high school I began researching wrestling schools and found out that there was one only a mile from my house. I started working a full time job just to pay the school’s tuition, became an official student in March 2007, and haven’t looked back since.

Gimmick: Miss April isn’t one to break the rules. She is all for doing what’s right, drinking milk, saving kittens from trees…you know, the usual. She is a soldier in the revolution of women’s wrestling (hence the camouflage). Miss April doesn’t care about the flashy costumes, t&a, barbie doll aspects of the business. She just cares about the wrestling and will never back down from a fight.

Career Highlight: Winning the 2009 King and Queen of the Ring Tournament. It was one of my favorite moments for two reasons: First, I loved getting in there with the guys and utilizing much more of my arsenal than usual; and, second, it was also really special for me to finally have a match with Jay (Lethal). I’ve spent more time in the ring with him than with anyone since he’s the one who trained me for the past two years, but we had never had an actual match together until then.

Wrestling Ambition: I’ve never gone into anything in my life without fully expecting to push myself to my limit and become the absolute best I can. I hope to wrestle my way to the top of this industry, and to one day be considered one of the best female wrestlers out there. I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m confident and I have a lot of faith. I also hope to be a role model to young women. I was personally inspired by Lita. I was always a tomboy and was really insecure about it. When Lita came along, I finally had someone to look up to. She showed me you didn’t have to be a girly girl to be beautiful, and it was ok to be a strong, athletic woman. I hope to one day be that same kind of role model and show girls that no matter your looks, style, race or size, you are capable of doing anything you put your mind to.

Wrestling Zielsetzung/Traum: Ich habe in meinem Leben nie etwas gemacht ohne zu erwarten an mein absolutes Limit zu gehen und das absolut Beste zu werden, was ich sein kann. Ich hoffe, mich bis an die Spitze der Branche wrestlen zu können und eines Tages vielleicht als eine der besten weiblichen Wrestler da draußen betrachtet zu werden. Ich habe noch einen witen Weg vor mir, doch ich bin zuversichtlich und habe sehr viel Glauben. Ich hoffe auch ein Vorbild für junge Frauen zu sein. Ich persönlich wurde von Lita (Amy Dumas) inspiriert. Ich war immer ein jungenhaftes Mädchen und deshalb immer sehr darüber verunsichert. Als Lita hinzugekommen ist, hatte ich endlich jemand, zu dem ich aufsehen konnte. Sie zeigte mir, das man nicht ein prinzessinenhaftes Mädchen sein muss um großartig zu sein und das es in Ordnung ist, eine starke, sportliche Frau zu sein. Ich hoffe, dass ich eines Tages auch so eine Art Vorbild sein kann und Mädchen zeigen kann, das man alles erreichen kann, was man sich in den Kopf setzt, egal wie man aussieht, welchen Stil, Rasse oder Größe man hat bzw. ist.

Personal Notes: If I wasn’t wrestling, my career focus would be on writing…..I attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, majoring in Film and Television production…..I have a special love for animals, and one of my life’s goals is to open a rescue shelter for homeless dogs…..Some of my other loves are just about every sci-fi book or movie ever, video games, anime and wrestling autobiographies.

Persönliche Anmerkung: Wenn ich nicht wrestlen würde, würde sich meine Karriere auf das Schreiben konzentrieren..Ich habe die NYU's Tisch School of the Arts besucht und als Hauptfach die Inszenierung des Film und Fernsehens studiert. Ich habe eine besondere Liebe für Tiere und eines meiner Lebensziele ist eine Rettungsunterkunft für herrenlose Hunde zu öffnen..Einige meiner anderen Lieben sind so gut wie alle Sciencefiction Bücher oder Filme, die es jemals gab, Videospiele, Anime und Wreslingbiographien.
